Moses Boyd – More To Life ft SHANTÈH
Criticise (W36) went after judgment dressed up as concern, “More To Life” sits with the person on the receiving end of it, and points them toward a way out.It was the first song Moses Boyd fully composed for Songs For Sinners, and his first go at writing lyrics. The beat starts out with jazz looseness and toughens into rugged drum & bass, Boyd’s drumming shoving the whole thing forward, while London alternative gospel singer Shantéh nailed her vocal in a couple of takes. The words speak to someone on their own, worn down, handed blame where kindness should have been, waiting for a reason to feel lighter and half-watching for an omen. No neat answers come back: faith here pulls and doubts at the same time, and Shantéh sings it like testimony. Third preview of Songs For Sinners, out October 30 on Beggars Music, with a video by Shan Oosthuizen.
